2nd Draft Reflection

I think that our second draft made a lot of improvements from our original piece. We have a more developed plot and message that matches our original vision for this piece. Our vision for this was to emphasize the conflict between the two sisters and how they don’t know how to show each other what they are feeling. Our new draft definitely shows the conflict between the sisters and how Ellie is holding in her feelings about what she really thinks. Another part of our vision was making sure that there were some abstract parts of our piece because we wanted to challenge ourselves to make some things more undefined. We didn’t do this in the second draft but during the feedback session about our draft we talked about creating a scene in the beginning to show the relationship between the real and dream Ellie. The scene we created was very similar to some of the viewpoints that we did in the beginning of the year. Helena is walking around and I am following her and eventually we meet and I say “just say it, tell her.” This foreshadows what is going to happen in the next scene and throughout the entire piece, because Helena is struggling to say the things that she wants to about Caroline leaving for the war.

We definitely still need to work on the scene in the beginning that is more abstract because we need to find audio for it and figure out when Helena and I are going to come together and walk in the spotlight. We also need to edit the audio for the war scene which I plan to have done by Monday at the latest. Another thing that I need to work on is my blocking during Caroline’s monologue, specifically I need to work on the scream because I think that it needs to be angrier and I need to throw the basket differently. I think that we have done a good job editing the script since the first draft as well as adding things to reach the time that we need for the IB. We have also done well with designing the lighting because I think that it helps to convey the story and help the audience to understand what is going on.
