Day 1 IB Theater

1. Think about a memorable performance that you participated in and describe it. (1 paragraph)

A memorable performance that I was in was the dress rehearsal for Les Mis. In this production I played Young Cosette and it was the first time that I would be performing on stage as a soloist. Throughout previous theater productions I was always in the ensemble so if I forgot what to do there was always someone I could look at. During this performance I was on stage all alone when I sang my solo song, so there was no one to hide behind. As a result of this I was very nervous even though this was only the dress rehearsal. I remember right before my song they were clearing the stage before I walked out and I didn't know when I should enter even though I had done it countless times. But I pulled it together waited for them to clear the stage and walked out to sing my song. When the lights came up I saw several of my teachers had come to watch the dress rehearsal, making me even more nervous. Then my music started, I blocked all the nerves out, and started singing. After that everything was easy because I knew my song very well. After the scene was over I walked off, sat in the offstage area and though I can't believe I just sang a song all by myself in front of my teachers but I was ready to do it again.

2. Think about a memorable performance that you have seen and describe it. (1 paragraph)

A memorable performance I have seen was Come From Away. This was a broadway musical about the 9/11 New York terrorist attacks. During this time a lot of planes were displaced into different airports around the world because the US airspace was shut down. This musical was about one plane full of people the was diverted to an airport in Newfoundland. All of the actors played one person on the plane and one townsperson. The story was about the connections that the people made with each other when they were trying to get back home. I loved the story and music because it really made me think about the small things people can do to help each other in any situation.

3. Post a photo/image related to theater.
