Start of the Collaborative Project

I am interested in doing acting maybe tech stuff too  I am interested in doing acting in a location outside of the theater A theme that I am interested is something serious or comedic  the genre of theater does not matter to me i am interested in challenging myself by doing something more abstract but I am also open to do something more concrete I have experience with serious roles and being in an ensemble I need someone who can be serious and stay in character on stage My partners also need to bring intensity because I struggle with keeping a scene intense I need someone who is good to bounce ideas off of  If i am doing something that is bad, I need a partner that isn't afraid to tell me that it's bad

Tectonic Theater Book Notes

Real architect of deconstruction is Mary Overlie  She was the creator of the six viewpoints Her approach was to divide a performance into parts  Shape  Time Emotion Movement Story She organized these into a pyramid in this order  A performance is built up from a story or text  Everything else is built around this  Moises Kaufma and Jeffery LaHoste started tectonic theater in 1991 because they wanted to take theater in a different direction than others and they had professors at NYU that knew no one would hire them to pursue these different directions   During the early years of tectonic theater they developed a process of questioning called moment work They used this to deepen their exploration of subject matter and stage vocabulary

Laramie Project Notes

Changed the town Defined by the crime Beaten because he was gay Some people don’t want to talk about the incident Following the bible closely  Could be homophobic (probably is) Won’t even associate with homosexuality Most people don’t trust gay people  Trying to make the crime not about all of Laramie Openly gay kid got murdered  He tried to fit in  He wanted to go to the University of Wyoming  Restart his education  Joined the gay and lesbian group on campus  Had a bright future ahead A lot of gay guys had to leave Wyoming  Locals say they are apathetic about homosexuality But they aren’t really Some people think that Matt came onto the straight guys  Townspeople think that it was partially Matt’s fault He allegedly “came onto” the straight guys Ruins the reputation of Laramie Brought reporters to Laramie “Live and let live”  Everyone is defending Laramie and their town  Say there are bad people in eve...

To Kill A Mockingbird Review

I viewed To Kill A Mockingbird by Aaron Sorkin, on October 11th 2019 at the Shubert theater on Broadway. Scout Finch was played by Celia Keenan-Bolger, her father Atticus was played by Jeff Daniels, another important character was Jem Finch, Atticus’s son played by Will Pullen. This play was mainly about racism in Alabama during the 1960s. During the play a man named Tom Robinson was wrongfully accused of raping a white woman. The lawyer assigned to defend him in court was Atticus Finch, the father of two children, Jean Louise (Scout) and Jem. The play is mainly about Atticus’s defence of Tom Robinson and the town’s racist opinions in general, and in regards to Tom Robinson’s trial. This trial had an effect on the whole town and both Jem and Scout had negative interactions with people that did not believe in the same things as Atticus. In the end even though all of the evidence is in Tom Robinsons favor he is still convicted of rape due to the jury’s racist views. This play highlighte...

ISTA TAPS Reflection

Throughout ISTA TAPS I learned a lot about theater and made a lot of good memories. A memorable experience was definitely the first scene that I did at ISTA. It was one of the open scenes that we practiced in class after returning from the trip. I was very nervous because I didn’t think that I practiced enough. However, when I stood up to perform I got lost in the moment and completely embodied my character while focusing on my partner in the scene. Afterwards, I thought that the scene went really well and for the rest of the performances throughout the workshop I was not nervous. Another memorable experience was watching To Kill A Mockingbird. During the first fifteen minutes of the play I was unsure if I liked it or not. However, once I started to understand what was happening, I realized how amazing all the moving parts were. For me the most powerful moments were the pauses in Atticus’s closing speech to the jury. It made me think more about the things that the representative f...

Viewpoints Reflection

In class we did many different exercises and learned about several vocabulary terms in order to understand viewpoints. Tempo, duration, kinesthetic response, repetition, and spatial relationship were all terms we went over in class and then applied to the exercises. Tempo is the speed a movement or gesture is performed. Tempo can affect the meaning of an action. For example, if someone reaches out slowly to touch someone on the shoulder that could be a meaningful or touching moment. However, if this same movement is done at a normal speed it could come across as a normal action to get someone's attention. Duration is the length of time that something is done for. If someone stands still for only a moment it can mean they are reluctant to do something. Although, if the pause is continued for a longer period of time it can mean they are waiting for something. Kinesthetic response is basing all of your movements on what someone else does. When someone speeds up this can prompt you t...
