I am my own wife

From what I have read about this production I think that it is going to be very serious story of the story of a transgender woman’s journey. I think that it will give a lot of insight to the obstacles and struggles that people who are struggling with their gender identity have to go through. I also think that it will give a lot of insight about what it is like to be a gay man in the Bible Belt because that is where Doug is from. For me I think that it is going to be very interesting especially because I know a lot about what happened to Jewish people during World War two, but I don’t know as much about what happened to transgender people. I am interested to see to what extent they add comedy to the show because it is a serious topic but in the article it said that there would be elements of comedy added throughout the show. The article also talked about how Charlotte’s father was abusive so this play is probably going to go into depth about this issue, which is also prevalent today. ...

2nd Draft Reflection

I think that our second draft made a lot of improvements from our original piece. We have a more developed plot and message that matches our original vision for this piece. Our vision for this was to emphasize the conflict between the two sisters and how they don’t know how to show each other what they are feeling. Our new draft definitely shows the conflict between the sisters and how Ellie is holding in her feelings about what she really thinks. Another part of our vision was making sure that there were some abstract parts of our piece because we wanted to challenge ourselves to make some things more undefined. We didn’t do this in the second draft but during the feedback session about our draft we talked about creating a scene in the beginning to show the relationship between the real and dream Ellie. The scene we created was very similar to some of the viewpoints that we did in the beginning of the year. Helena is walking around and I am following her and eventually we meet and I ...

Collaborative Reflection (halfway point) Strengths/Weaknesses

One of the strengths of our project right now is that it has a very well developed plot. We have decided what is going to happen when, and in what order these things will take place. This has been true of our project from the beginning, and while our project isn’t very complex with our sequence of events, what happens in each scene, and the emotions of the characters are the more complex aspects of our project. Another one of our group’s strengths is our interaction with each other on stage as characters. We have definitely been working on the dialogue between characters to make it more like what people would say to each other during a conversation. I think the first scene between the “real” Ellie (Helena), and Sophia (Caroline) has definitely come a long way and they have improved a lot on this scene since we started this project. One of our weaknesses right now is the scene during the dream between me and Caroline. During this part she is at the war base and I am at home writing h...

Collaborative Questions

1. What is the stimulus you are using? Describe it. The stimulus that we are using is the song Just a Dream by Carrie Underwood. The song starts with a young woman getting married. Her husband eventually joins the military and leaves her alone at their house. The woman eventually finds out that her husband was killed because a military representative brings her a letter. Most of the song is her singing about how she feels like what she is living is just a dream she wishes would end. She sang about why this had to happen and that this wasn’t how she imagined her life turning out. 2. What are/were some of your initial ideas based on the stimulus? Our initial ideas were to something historical and somewhat dark. This eventually developed into ideas about maybe doing something about a person leaving for war, and the people around them don’t know what to say and do. This progressed into somehow including a dream in our piece, where the person getting left behind is saying all of...

End of semester reflection

There are a lot of areas for growth next semester for our project. We need to improve on advancing the plot, making the plot clearer, and developing lighting as well as sound. Our group also needs to work on finding an ending to the story because so far we don’t know how we are going to conclude it. We have been exploring several options but we need to pick which one fits our story the best. For lighting we have written out what we want to happen but we still need to program the cues and figure out how we are going to do some of the on stage lighting that we want. We still need to write the scene where the dream Ellie is talking about her relationship with her sister. This is my monologue and I need to make sure that it isn’t repetitive, and that it is natural. Also, we need to make sure that it is clear to the audience that I am Helena's subconscious/dream self. We can do this by having us wear the exact same thing, but we think that we need something else to make it clear that ...

First Collaborative Reflection

In the beginning of this process my group, me, Caroline, and Helena started by doing different exercises to explore our stimulus. Our stimulus was the song “Just a Dream” by Carrie Underwood. This song is about a newlywed couple starting their life together. The husband eventually decides to go into the military and leaves the wife alone. He dies in combat and the wife is now a widow. After we decided on the stimulus we did improv exercises to explore possible topics as well as a lighting exercise. After we did this we wrote a general outline of the major plot points that we want to hit during our performance. We have also outlined what lighting we want to try for each scene. This week we wrote the script for out first scene and rehearsed it three times. Each time we tried to make sure there were changes in emotion at certain crucial points. We also changed the placement of props and set pieces to make the scene more natural. My contribution was helping to write the script and light...

Review of the Curious Incident

Review of The Curious Incident Performed by Cheshire Academy I saw the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Simon Stephens on November 15th 2019 at Cheshire Academy. The directors of this play were Mrs. Guarino and Mr. Hunton, the major actors were Pacifica Yang, Ameila Williams, Wiljam Lemping, and Olivia Williamson. This production is about a boy named Christopher who has autism and his families journey. When the lights came up on the stage, the first thing that happened was that a dog was killed. Shortly after this, Christopher's father, Ed reveals that Christophers mother had a heart attack and died. Throughout the first act Ed was struggling without his wife, he got so angry that he even hit Christopher. Eventually it is revealed that Judy, christophers mother didn’t actually die, she ran away with the neighbor to London. We also find out the Ed killed the neighbor's dog. Christopher wants to go live with Judy because he is afraid of his...
